RELOCATABLE WATER TREATMENT PLANT
CLIENT
Queensland Mine
OBJECTIVE
To efficiently and cost-effectively reduce water inventory at a Queensland mine site dam system by facilitating environmental discharge. XR3 was engaged to deliver a relocatable water treatment plant capable of meeting strict environmental compliance requirements while ensuring operational flexibility and minimal site disruption.
THE CHALLENGES
The project faced several significant challenges that required innovative solutions.
- High calcium and sulfate levels.
- Presence of heavy metals and organic contaminants.
- Elevated micro-algae loads.
- Remote site accessibility.
Compounding these issues was the site’s remote location, which limited access to resources and demanded efficient logistical planning to ensure swift deployment and ongoing support.
APPROACH
- Swift Mobilisation: The relocatable water treatment plant was deployed to the site within three weeks of contract initiation, ensuring a rapid response to project needs.
- Onsite Commissioning: The plant was fully operational within four days of arrival, minimising downtime and enabling immediate water treatment.
- Simplified Operation: An integrated control system streamlined plant and auxiliary management, enhancing efficiency.
- Process Design:
- Treatment Capacity: 1.5 MLD (million litres per day).
- Process: Multi-Media Filtration (MMF) followed by Reverse Osmosis (RO).
- Recovery Rate: 70–75%.
- Output Water Quality: Electrical Conductivity (EC) reduced from 3000–4500 µS/cm to 200 µS/cm.
- Remote Monitoring: Real-time oversight and reporting capabilities reduced the need for onsite management while ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
